A measurement of the Flight Path 12 cold H2 moderator brightness at LANSCE

چکیده
We have measured the brightness of the Flight Path 12 upstream/back-scattering partially coupled cold hydrogen moderator at LANSCE. This measurement was performed in the neutron energy range of 0.8–76.9meV by using a timeof-flight technique in conjunction with a two-pinhole collimator system. Cold neutrons were observed with a redundant Li-loaded glass scintillation detector having an efficiency of close to unity. The detector viewed an area of 0.93 cm on the center of the 12 12 cm moderator surface. A maximum brightness of 1.25 10 neutrons s 1 sr 1 cm meV mA 1 was measured at 3.3-meV neutron energy. Statistical and systematic errors of the measurement are 3% and 7%, respectively. The measured brightness is compared to the result of a model calculation and there is a significant disagreement, by a factor of 1.5 at the peak. The performance of the m 1⁄4 3 supermirror neutron guide system on Flight Path 12 was also studied with the two pinhole-detector system. Published by Elsevier B.V. New Pulsed Cold Neutron Beam Line for Fundamental Nuclear Physics at LANSCE
The NPDGamma collaboration has completed the construction of a pulsed cold neutron beam line on flight path12 at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE). We describe the new beam line and characteristics of the beam. We report results of the moderator brightness and the guide performance measurements. FP12 has the highest pulsed cold neutron intensity for nuclear physics in the world.

The Low Energy Neutron Source (LENS) is an accelerator-based pulsed cold neutron facility under construction at the Indiana University Cyclotron Facility (IUCF). The idea behind LENS is to produce pulsed cold neutron beams starting with ∼MeV neutrons from (p,n) reactions in Be which are moderated to meV energies and extracted from a small solid angle for use in neutron instruments which can ope...
متن کاملParameters of the NERA spectrometer for cold and thermal moderators of the IBR-2 pulsed reactor
The inverted geometry time-of-flight spectrometer NERA designed for simultaneous investigation of elastic and inelastic neutron scattering was constructed on a 100 meter long flight path of the IBR-2 reactor at JINR, Dubna, Russia. Spectrometer parameters were optimized for the thermal neutron spectrum of a water moderator at 330 K. Recently, a new type of cold neutron source operating at 30 K ...

The new neutron time-of-flight (TOF) diffractometer HIPPO (High-Pressure-Preferred Orientation) at LANSCE (Los Alamos Neutron Science Center) is described and results for quantitative texture analysis of a standard sample are discussed. HIPPO overcomes the problem of weak neutron scattering intensities by taking advantage of the improved source at LANSCE, a short flight path (9m) and a novel th...

An implicit unsteady upwind solver including a mesh motion approach was applied to simulate a helicopter including body, main rotor and tail rotor in hover flight. The discretization was based on a second order finite volume approach with fluxes given by the Roeand#39;s scheme. Discretization of Geometric Conservation Laws (GCL) was devised in such a way that the three-dimensional flows on arbi...
